Trades & Journaling
The Trades section is the engine of your stock trading journal. It allows you to track active market exposure, review past executions in a comprehensive trading logbook, check daily consistency on a visual calendar, and import broker data seamlessly.
Open Trades (Swing Trade Tracker)
The **Open Trades** tab tracks your active, live positions in the market. Rather than just showing the current price, this view functions as an active risk-management dashboard:
- Entry & Current Price: Displays your average acquisition price vs. the current live market price.
- Stop Loss & Target: Visualizes your defined risk boundaries. Keeping stop losses visible prevents you from negotiating with a losing trade.
- R-Value & Multiple: Calculates your current unrealized profit or loss in units of risk. A trade returning +2R tells you your reward is double your initial risk.
- Position Size & Value: Displays the quantity of shares and the total capital allocated to the trade.
All Trades (Trading Logbook)
The **All Trades** tab is your complete historical repository. It lists all closed and open positions. You can search, sort, and filter your trades using several parameters:
- Setup/Strategy Filter: Query performance of specific patterns (e.g., Breakout vs. Mean Reversion).
- Mistake Filter: Isolate trades where you committed specific behavioral mistakes (e.g., FOMO Entry) to see their exact net financial impact.
- Search Symbol: Instantly look up all executions for a specific stock (e.g., RELIANCE).
Calendar View
The **Calendar View** is a visual P&L heatmap of your trading month. Green days denote net profits, while red days show net losses.
It helps you track behavioral consistency. For example, a month with mostly green days and small red days shows disciplined execution. Conversely, a calendar with occasional massive red days that wipe out weeks of steady green days highlights a critical risk-management leak (e.g., averaging down or failing to respect stops).
Trade Summary & Statistics
A dedicated statistics page that aggregates your closed trades. It calculates win rates, profit factors, average hold times, and P&L distribution across:
- Days of the Week: Identify if you have a performance tilt on specific days (e.g., overtrading on Mondays or panic selling on Fridays).
- Setups/Strategies: Run expectancy calculations to see which patterns are actually profitable.
- Industry/Sector: See if your trading edge is concentrated in specific market sectors.
Equity Curve
Your portfolio equity curve is the ultimate report card of your trading strategy. It plots your net capital growth over time.
Review the slope of the curve: a steep upward slope indicates high performance, a flat curve indicates sideways chop or sitting in cash, and a downward slope indicates drawdowns. Use this to determine if your risk parameters need adjustment.
Upload & Sync (Auto-Import Fills)
Keep your data accurate without manual entry. ProTradeJournal supports:
- Broker API Sync: Sync directly with brokers like Zerodha, Upstox, Groww, Angel One, Dhan, and Fyers. This imports your trade executions (fills), prices, and times automatically.
- CSV Import: If your broker is not integrated, download a transaction CSV from your broker console and upload it using our standardized CSV template.
Missed Trades
Logging trades you saw but *did not* take is a powerful exercise. When you spot a setup but hesitate due to fear or distraction, log it as a **Missed Trade**.
By tracking these missed setups, you can calculate the "opportunity cost" of your hesitation. If the data shows your missed trades would have generated significant profits, it provides the psychological confidence you need to pull the trigger without hesitation next time.
